About

Fort Hamby Park occupies a scenic position on the north shore of the 1,475-acre W. Kerr Scott Reservoir in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The campground sits within mixed hardwood forest of sycamore, poplar, oak, and hickory, providing shade and a forested camping experience with lake access. Wildlife including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and various waterfowl frequent the area. The campground offers 32 individual campsites, all with electric (50 amp) and water hookups, plus a large group site accommodating up to 100 guests. Sites have gravel bases, so tent campers should bring extra padding. Each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, grill, utility table, and lantern hook. Modern amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, and a dump station with trash service provided. Recreation options abound at the reservoir. The sandy swim beach, playground, basketball court, and horseshoe pit are on site. The lake offers excellent fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, striped bass, and hybrid striped bass. Boating, canoeing, and kayaking are popular. Miles of multi-use trails surround the lake, including the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail and 25 additional miles at the Warrior Creek and Dark Mountain areas.
