About
Fort Hamby Park is located on the north side of W. Kerr Scott Reservoir in the scenic Yadkin River Valley of western North Carolina. The campground offers 32 individual campsites, all equipped with electric hookups, plus one large group site that accommodates up to 100 guests. Sites are nestled under a thick forest canopy on one side with lake views on the other. Modern amenities make for comfortable camping, including flush toilets, hot showers, and drinking water. The 1,475-acre reservoir provides excellent opportunities for boating, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming. Anglers can pursue channel catfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, threadfin shad, spotted bass, striped bass, and hybrid striped bass. On-site recreation includes a sandy beach, playground, basketball court, and horseshoe pits. Miles of multi-use trails for hiking and mountain biking surround the lake, including the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail. Additional trail systems at Warrior Creek and Dark Mountain offer 25+ more miles of trails. The campground sits in the gentle Yadkin River Valley at the foot of the eastern Blue Ridge Mountains, surrounded by mixed hardwood forests of sycamore, poplar, oak, and hickory. Wildlife is abundant, including white-tailed deer, black bear, eastern cottontails, wild turkey, woodpeckers, Carolina chickadees, and various waterfowl. Fort Hamby Park is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and operates seasonally from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
