About
Dam Site Park Shelter is located directly below W. Kerr Scott Dam's visitor center in the scenic Yadkin River Valley in the foothills of the eastern Blue Ridge Mountains. The group shelter offers a beautiful view of the dam and reservoir, along with convenient access to multiple recreational opportunities. The shelter accommodates groups with eight standard 8-foot picnic tables and two 10-foot ADA-accessible picnic tables, plus electric hookups for events. The site includes vault toilets, a grill, and horseshoe pit. Parking at the Visitor Assistance Center provides easy access to the shelter, museum, and Environmental Education Center. The 1,475-acre W. Kerr Scott Reservoir offers excellent boating, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming. A boat ramp is located at the Dam Site area. Anglers can target channel catfish, large and smallmouth bass, bluegill, threadfin shad, spotted bass, striped bass, and hybrid striped bass. The Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail and Native Tree Trail have trailheads within walking distance, and an additional 25 miles of multi-use trails can be found at Warrior Creek and Dark Mountain areas. The surrounding forests of mixed hardwoods provide habitat for white-tailed deer, black bear, wild turkey, and numerous bird species.
