Bandits Roost
Open for the 2026 camping season. The swim beach is currently closed due to low water levels at W. Kerr Scott Lake, but camping operations continue normally. Boaters should use caution as some boat ramps may be hazardous due to low water.

The low water level at W. Kerr Scott Lake will prevent the swim beaches from opening. Currently Berry Mountain Park, Boomer Park (swim beach side of park), Fort Hamby swim beach, Bandits Roost swim beach will not open until major rain event brings the lake level back up to normal level. Keep checking for updates regarding boat ramps. Boaters use extreme caution while on the lake. Some boat ramps may become hazardous for you to launch your boat.

As of now the booking window for reservations will begin on March 1st, 2026, for Bandits Roost and Warrior Creek campground for the time frame of April 15th through April 29th, 2026, only. As of now the booking window for reservations will begin on April 27th, 2026, for Bandits Roost and Warrior Creek campgrounds for the remaining 2026 season. As of now the booking window for reservations will begin on May 11th, 2026, for Fort Hamby Park shelters and campground.
About
Bandits Roost Campground occupies a scenic position on the south side of W. Kerr Scott Reservoir in western North Carolina's Yadkin River Valley. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the campground offers 102 sites divided between 17 tent-only sites and 85 standard sites equipped with water and 50-amp electric hookups. A group tent area with covered shelter is also available. The lakefront setting provides direct access to the 1,475-acre reservoir for boating, kayaking, and fishing for bass, catfish, and striped bass. Facilities include flush toilets, pit toilets, hot showers, drinking water, and an RV dump station. Each campsite has a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. The campground features a boat ramp, swim beach, playground, basketball court, and amphitheater. The Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail has a trailhead within the campground, and additional multi-use trails for hiking and mountain biking are nearby at Warrior Creek and Dark Mountain areas. Reservations are made through Recreation.gov. Quiet hours are 10pm to 6am, and generators must be off by 10pm. Maximum stay is 14 days within any 30-day period. Golden Age/Access pass holders receive a 50% discount when present at check-in.
Directions
From Winston-Salem, take Highway 421 North approximately 55 miles to Exit 286B. Turn left onto Highway 268 and continue approximately 5 miles. Turn right onto Jess Walsh Road and follow to the campground entrance at the end of the road.
