Open for the peak season. May 1 through September 15, 11 of 19 sites are reservable via Recreation.gov; remaining sites are first-come, first-served. From September 16 through April 30, all sites revert to first-come, first-served only.

Red Mountain Campground is a Bureau of Land Management facility situated along the lower Madison River in southwestern Montana. The campground provides excellent access to the Madison's renowned trout fishery and serves the growing number of summer tubers and floaters who enjoy this stretch of river. A seasonal volunteer campground host is present during peak season, and firewood is available for purchase when the host is on-site. The 19-site campground offers basic amenities including three accessible vault toilets, potable drinking water, and picnic tables. While there is no boat launch directly at the campground, several launches are located nearby, with Red Mountain positioned roughly halfway between Warm Springs boat launch and Black's Ford Fishing Access Site. The area also provides proximity to Bear Trap Canyon unit of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness Area and Norris Hot Springs.

Directions

From Bozeman: Head west on MT Hwy 84 (Norris Road) for 20.5 miles. Turn right (north) at South Bear Trap Canyon Road. If you cross the Madison River, you have passed the turn. From Norris: Head east on MT Hwy 84 for 8 miles and turn left at South Bear Trap Canyon Road after crossing the Madison River.
