About

Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park encompasses 3,015 acres and features one of the most highly decorated limestone caverns in the Northwest. As Montana's first state park, it offers visitors access to spectacular underground formations including stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and helictites via guided tours from May through September, with limited candlelight tours in December. The park's campground has 40 campsites with electric and water hookups, three cabins, a wall tent, and first-come, first-served hiker/biker sites. Full amenities including showers, flush toilets, and potable water are available May through September, while vault toilets serve campers during the winter months. The park also features a modern visitor center with interpretive displays, a gift shop and café during summer, over 10 miles of trails for hiking and biking, and an amphitheater for ranger-led programs. Located at elevations ranging from 4,300 feet at the entry to 5,300 feet at the caverns area, the park provides access to the Jefferson River and scenic views throughout. The site is 12 miles east of Whitehall and offers year-round outdoor recreation with ADA-accessible facilities.
