About

Missouri Headwaters State Park encompasses 560 acres at the geographic birthplace of the Missouri River, where the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin rivers converge. This site holds significant historical importance as the location where the Lewis and Clark Expedition camped in July 1805 during their journey westward. The park preserves both natural and cultural resources, offering interpretive displays about the area's Native American history and the Corps of Discovery. The campground provides 17 sites suitable for tents, RVs, and trailers, plus tipis available for rental. Each campsite includes a fire ring, picnic table, and gravel driveway. Facilities include both flush and vault toilets along with drinking water stations. There are no hookups or showers. A boat ramp provides access to the rivers for non-motorized watercraft. Activities include hiking, fishing, swimming, and wildlife viewing. The park features interpretive trails exploring the historic confluence area. A camp host is on-site during the summer season. Maximum occupancy is 8 people per site with a 14-day stay limit.
