AQAMT The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air quality alert for Beaverhead, Broadwater, Deer Lodge, Flathead, Gallatin, Granite, Jefferson, Lake, Lewis and Clark, Lincoln, Madison, Mineral, Missoula, Park, Powell, Ravalli, Silver Bow, Sweet Grass, Sanders, Yellowstone counties in effect until 9AM on 08/11/2026 An Air Quality Alert means that particulates have been trending upwards and that an exceedance of the 24 hour National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) has occurred or may occur in the near future. Elevated particulate levels from wildfire smoke As of 7AM on 08/10/2026, particulate levels in Columbia Falls, Frenchtown, Libby and Missoula are Unhealthy. Red Meadow Lake Campground is a secluded primitive campground situated at 5,500 feet elevation in the Flathead National Forest of northwest Montana. The campground provides 3 campsites near Red Meadow Lake, offering a quiet backcountry experience for those seeking solitude. Basic facilities include a vault toilet, but no potable water is available. This free campground requires self-sufficiency. Campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. A food storage order is in effect throughout the area to protect both campers and wildlife. The 16-day stay limit applies. Access to the campground is via County Road 486, traveling 41 miles north of Columbia Falls, then 11 miles west on Forest Service Road 115. Alternatively, the area can be reached from the west through Stillwater State Forest. The access road opening date varies annually depending on snow conditions.
