About

South Dickey Lake is a popular day-use group picnic area situated on the shores of beautiful Dickey Lake in the Kootenai National Forest. The facility is located in northwestern Montana at an elevation of about 3,100 feet, surrounded by larch and fir trees. The reservable group picnic area accommodates up to 50 people and includes two tables and campfire rings with grills. In addition to the reservable site, four first-come, first-served day-use sites are available. The facility provides access to a grassy swimming beach that slopes gently down to the 800-acre lake. The lake offers excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and water skiing. Anglers can expect to catch kokanee salmon, kamloop trout, and rainbow trout. A boat ramp is available for launching watercraft. In spring and early summer, visitors often hear the calls of loons from the beach. Accessible vault toilets and potable drinking water are provided on-site. The facility operates as a day-use area only, open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with overnight camping prohibited. Those wishing to camp overnight can make reservations at the nearby North Dickey Lake Campground on the opposite side of the lake. The facility is located 20 miles from the U.S.-Canadian border and 65 miles from Glacier National Park.
