About

Red Ives Cabin served as the Ranger Station for the Red Ives Ranger District from the 1930s to 1984 and is now one of the most popular rental facilities in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. Located alongside the St. Joe National Wild and Scenic River, the cabin sits in heavily forested, mountainous terrain with steep drainages. The cabin features two bedrooms (one with a queen bed, one with two sets of bunk beds, plus a queen futon), a full kitchen with propane stove/oven and refrigerator, living room, bathroom with flush toilet and shower/tub, and a covered front porch. Heat is provided by a gas log fireplace, and battery lanterns provide lighting. Hot water is available. The facility operates off-grid with propane and battery power. Red Ives offers world-class fishing on the St. Joe River, along with opportunities for floating, kayaking, hiking, and OHV use. The remote location requires traveling 10 miles on narrow Forest Road 218, a one-lane road with turnouts. Avery is the nearest town for supplies. Renters must contact the St. Joe Ranger District to obtain an entry key code before arrival.

Directions
