About
Line Creek Stock Camp is a remote, purpose-built equestrian campground situated alongside the designated Wild and Scenic St. Joe River in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. Located at 3,800 feet elevation and 87 miles from St. Maries via Forest Highway 50, this facility caters specifically to horseback riders and pack stock users exploring the rugged backcountry of northern Idaho.
The campground features 7 pull-through camping units designed to accommodate stock trailers, with 5 sites available for reservation and 2 for first-come, first-served use. Six sites are equipped with feed bunks, two have highline poles, and one includes a corral. Stock water is available at the river. The campground provides vault toilets and fire rings at each site, but no developed drinking water is available.
The location offers exceptional access to over 100 miles of non-motorized trails and 60 miles of multiple-use trails in steep, forested terrain. The St. Joe River Trail 48 departs directly from the campground and winds along the river for 18 miles to Heller Campground. The area is popular for day rides, pack-in trips, big game hunting, and catch-and-release fishing in wild trout waters. The campground also serves as a base for exploring primitive forest roads leading to Montana, Surveyors Lookout, Snow Peak trailhead, and Gold Creek. The historic Red Ives Ranger Station and museum is located one mile downstream.
