Seasonal access typically June through early October, weather dependent. Roads may be impassable due to snow or mud outside this window. Fire restrictions can be implemented at any time.

About

Red Dirt Reservoir is a small dispersed camping area located in the Gore Pass region of Routt National Forest, situated between Yampa and Kremmling in Grand County, Colorado. The reservoir offers rainbow trout fishing along with hiking, mountain biking, and scenery viewing opportunities. This free camping area is managed by the Yampa Ranger District. The site provides minimal amenities typical of dispersed camping. A vault toilet is available, but there is no potable water, trash service, or picnic tables. Campers must pack out all waste and bring their own water supply. The area was significantly impacted by the 2018 Silver Creek Fire, and the burn scar remains visible. Visitors should exercise caution around standing dead trees (snags) and avoid camping beneath them. For those traveling with trailers, be aware there are no pull-through sites, which can make turning around difficult depending on traffic and usage. Access is via Forest Development Road 100 and FDR 101 from Highway 134. Fire restrictions can be implemented at any time, so check with the Yampa Ranger Station before your trip.

Directions

From Yampa: Travel south on Hwy 131 approximately 11 miles to Hwy 134. Go east on Hwy 134 approximately 20 miles to Forest Development Road 100. Go north on FDR 100 about 8 miles to FDR 101. Go north on FDR 101 about 2 miles to Red Dirt Reservoir.
