About
Pumphouse Recreation Area is managed by the BLM Kremmling Field Office and sits along the Upper Colorado River between Gore Canyon and Hartman Canyon. With over 100,000 annual visitors, it serves as the most heavily used access point for the Upper Colorado River, offering calm flat water to Class III whitewater rapids. The Gore Canyon Whitewater Playpark above Boat Ramp #2 features a manmade wave popular with kayakers and stand-up paddleboarders. The campground provides 18 single campsites and 2 group campsites, each with a picnic table, fire ring, and access to vault toilets. Sites 1-8 accommodate vehicles up to 35 feet with back-in or pull-in access, while sites 9-18 offer parallel parking suited for two vehicles and small trailers. No electric hookups are available, and cell service is nonexistent without a booster. Several hiking trails depart from the recreation area, including the 1.5-mile Gore Canyon Trail and 1.25-mile Gore Canyon Ranch Trail, both foot-traffic only. The historic Argentine Trail offers more adventurous access along cliffs blasted into Hartman Canyon. The town of Kremmling is approximately 15 miles east for supplies.
Directions
From Kremmling, travel approximately 15 miles west on US Highway 9/Colorado Headwaters Scenic Byway, then turn onto Grand County Road 106 (Trough Road) and continue to the recreation area.
