About

Blacktail Creek Campground is a small, highway-accessible campground in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, located on Colorado Highway 134 (Gore Pass) between the towns of Kremmling and Yampa. With just 8 first-come, first-served sites at 9,000 feet elevation, this campground serves as a convenient overnight stop for travelers or a base for exploring the surrounding area. The campground was affected by mountain pine beetle but retains many young aspen trees. Since it sits low along the highway, views consist primarily of the recovering aspen forest rather than dramatic mountain vistas. Each site includes a tent pad, fire grate, and picnic table. A single vault toilet serves the campground, and potable water is typically available from June through September depending on weather. Blacktail Creek flows behind the campground, providing stream fishing opportunities. The campground operates on a cash or check basis only with exact change required. Dogs are welcome but must remain leashed at all times.
