About

Rock Creek Recreation Area is a dispersed camping destination in the Gore Range of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, managed by the Yampa Ranger District. The area provides several primitive campsites scattered along Rock Creek, offering a rustic backcountry experience without designated sites or amenities typical of developed campgrounds. This area is a favorite among hunters and families seeking a quiet, undeveloped camping experience. A single vault toilet serves the area, but campers must bring their own drinking water as potable water is not available. Fire rings and picnic tables are not provided at individual sites. Mountain biking opportunities can be found nearby at the Rock Creek Trailhead, and the area offers fishing access along Rock Creek. The recreation area is accessed via Rock Creek Road #250 off State Highway 134, east of Toponas. Usage is typically light, making it an appealing option for those seeking solitude in the Colorado high country.

Directions

From Yampa, travel south on State Highway 131 for 10 miles to State Highway 134 at Toponas. Follow State Highway 134 east to Rock Creek Road #250.
