About

Rock Creek Recreation Area provides several dispersed campsites along Rock Creek in the Gore Range of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. This free camping area is a favorite among hunters and families seeking a remote, lightly-used location in the mountains. The area offers basic amenities with a vault toilet provided, but individual campsites do not have picnic tables or fire rings. No potable water is available on-site. The dispersed sites are scattered along Rock Creek Road (Forest Road 250), accessible from State Highway 134 east of Toponas. Rock Creek Recreation Area serves as a base for exploring nearby recreation opportunities including mountain biking at the Rock Creek Trailhead, fishing in Rock Creek, and OHV road riding. The area's light usage level makes it an ideal spot for those seeking solitude in the Gore Range.
