Red Cloud Campground sits along the eastern shore of Guernsey Reservoir within Guernsey State Park, one of Wyoming's most historically significant outdoor recreation areas. The park encompasses roughly 6,227 acres and features remarkable CCC-built structures from the 1930s, many of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. Red Cloud is one of 12 campgrounds scattered around the reservoir, offering a more primitive camping experience compared to the hookup-equipped sites at Sandy Beach and Sandy Point on the west side. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. Potable water and comfort stations are available seasonally from mid-April through October 1, after which systems are winterized. The park features a dump station near the south entrance that operates on the same seasonal schedule. Camping is limited to 14 days within any 30-day period, and sites accommodate one camping unit plus two licensed vehicles and up to 10 people. Guernsey State Park offers excellent hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing opportunities. The park's museum, open May through September, showcases the area's CCC history and natural heritage. Note that reservoir water levels fluctuate significantly, with an annual silt run typically occurring after July 4th that substantially reduces water levels.

Directions

From Guernsey, WY, head north on US-26 for approximately 1 mile. Turn left onto WY-317 and continue into the park. Follow Lake Side Drive along the east side of the reservoir to reach Red Cloud Campground.
