Black Canyon Cove Group Campground is part of Guernsey State Park, a 6,227-acre recreation area surrounding Guernsey Reservoir in southeastern Wyoming. The group site (BCC-219) sits directly on the water in a canyon setting carved by the North Platte River. The park is known for its impressive Civilian Conservation Corps-era architecture and structures built during the 1930s. The campground is primitive, meaning it lacks the electric and water hookups found at the park's Sandy Beach and Sandy Point campgrounds on the west side. All campgrounds at Guernsey State Park feature fire rings and picnic tables. A dump station is located at the park's south entrance, and a coin-operated shower facility operates seasonally near park headquarters. Water systems throughout the park are winterized October 1 and reactivated in mid-April. Guernsey State Park offers excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, water skiing, and swimming. The park also features hiking trails, a museum (open May through September), and access to nearby Oregon Trail historic sites including the famous Register Cliff and Oregon Trail Ruts.

Directions

From Guernsey, Wyoming, head north on US-26/WY-317. Turn left to enter Guernsey State Park. Black Canyon Cove is located on the east side of the reservoir. Follow park signs to the Black Canyon area.
