Fish Canyon Campground sits within Guernsey State Park, positioned up in a canyon rather than directly on the water. The campground offers 9 campsites, with two designated as ADA accessible. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire grill, providing a basic but comfortable camping experience in a natural setting with shade from surrounding trees. Guernsey State Park is renowned for its outstanding examples of Civilian Conservation Corps architecture and craftsmanship from the 1930s. The park features the Guernsey Museum, the Castle, and Brimmer Point, all constructed by the CCC with hand-hewn timbers and hand-forged iron. An extensive network of approximately 14 miles of restored CCC trails provides moderately demanding hikes with scenic views of the reservoir and dam. The park encompasses 19 campgrounds with 250 total campsites around Guernsey Reservoir, which is managed by Wyoming State Parks for the Bureau of Reclamation. The reservoir is subject to an annual silt run, typically after July 4th, which significantly lowers water levels and restricts water recreation activities. Fish Canyon Campground provides comfort stations and is located near the park's historic Oregon Trail sites, including the famous wagon ruts and Register Cliff.

Directions

From Interstate 90, take exit 12, and travel west eight blocks to the Canyon Street stoplight (second light). Turn left and go nine blocks on Canyon Street, past the Spearfish City Park, and across the bridge.
