About
Located in the Mayacamas Mountains between Sonoma and Napa valleys, Sugarloaf Ridge State Park Campground provides 47 year-round family campsites in a scenic setting where Sonoma Creek's headwaters flow through gorge and canyon. Each campsite includes a table and fire ring, with hot showers available in the campground. The park's 25 miles of trails wind through oak woodland and chaparral, offering opportunities to see deer, bobcats, and gray foxes. A self-guided nature trail along Sonoma Creek starts near the campground. On clear days, hikers can reach the 2,729-foot summit of Bald Mountain for views extending to the Sierra Nevada and Golden Gate Bridge. The park is home to the Robert Ferguson Observatory, which offers public astronomy programs. The campground is managed by the nonprofit Sonoma Ecology Center and Team Sugarloaf. Located about one hour from San Francisco and seven miles east of Santa Rosa, the park provides convenient access to wine country while immersing visitors in protected natural habitat.
