About

San Elijo State Beach Group Campground, known as the Grunion Run site, offers a unique group camping experience on a narrow stretch of coastal bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The fenced group area can host up to 40 campers with parking for 10 vehicles, though only 2 vehicles may park inside the campsite itself. The site is equipped with 6 picnic tables, a fire pit, a barbecue grill, and a single 50-amp hookup providing water and sewer connections. The campground sits along Historic Coast Highway 101, approximately three-quarters of a mile north of San Elijo Lagoon's entrance channel. The nearby reef is part of the San Elijo State Marine Conservation Area, making it popular for surfing and tide pooling. The main campground offers restrooms with flush toilets and showers, drinking water, and an RV dump station. Dogs are permitted in the campground but not on the beach. Reservations are required through ReserveCalifornia. The group site is a pull-through configuration accessed via the northern gate. An extra-long sewage hose is recommended to reach the dump connection. The adjacent beach provides excellent opportunities for swimming, surfing, and enjoying Southern California's mild coastal climate year-round.
