Ramhorn Springs Campground
Open — Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations. Access road may be impassable during wet weather.
About
Ramhorn Springs Campground is a small Bureau of Land Management facility built around a historic water source that has served travelers and ranchers for generations in the high desert of eastern Lassen County. The campground features 10 campsites on packed earth and gravel surfaces, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Additional facilities include an informational kiosk, trash cans, one vault toilet, and a horse corral for equestrian visitors. This primitive campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees, though donations are requested to assist with routine maintenance. The site has minimal shade, making it most comfortable during the cooler months of fall, winter, and spring. Access is via BLM Road 26000, an unimproved dirt road that is passable for vehicles with trailers but can become impassable during wet weather. Campers must bring their own water as no potable water is available on-site. The campground is exempt from seasonal winter closures that affect other BLM campgrounds in the region, making it a reliable option for year-round desert camping. The remote location offers opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, bird watching, and hunting, with relatively little development or traffic.
Directions
From Susanville, travel north on U.S. Highway 395 approximately 45 miles. The access road is approximately 2.4 miles north of the California Department of Transportation Roadside Rest Area. Turn east (right) onto BLM Road 26000. Travel approximately 2.5 miles; the campground will be on your left. BLM Road 26000 is an unimproved dirt road that can become impassable during wet weather but is passable by vehicles pulling trailers.
