About

Dodge Reservoir Campground sits at approximately 5,600 feet elevation in a remote high desert landscape of sagebrush hills and scattered junipers, about 17 miles northeast of Ravendale and 60 miles northeast of Susanville. The 480-acre reservoir was constructed in 1937 by the Dodge Brothers for irrigation and remains a destination for anglers seeking Rainbow Trout, Lahontan Cutthroat, and brown trout stocked by the California Department of Fish and Game. This primitive BLM campground offers a free, first-come, first-served camping experience. Sites include picnic tables and one wheelchair-accessible vault toilet. There is no potable water, trash collection, or other services. Campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. Donations are welcomed but not required. Access is via County Road 506, an unimproved dirt road that can become impassable during wet weather. The roads are passable by vehicles pulling trailers but expect rough and dusty conditions. The prime season for visiting is spring and early summer when water levels peak. Note that water rights are held by the Dodge Ranch with no minimum pool requirement, so reservoir levels vary considerably.
