About
East Creek Equestrian Campground serves as the primary horse camping facility for equestrian access to the South Warner Wilderness in the Modoc National Forest. The campground replaced Patterson Campground for horse camping purposes, and horses are no longer permitted at Patterson Campground or the Patterson Guard Station. Facilities include corrals and stock water specifically designed for equestrian campers and their animals. While the East Creek Trail is currently closed and inaccessible, a connector trail runs northeast from the campground to Patterson Campground, providing access to the Summit Trail and the South Warner Wilderness. The campground features picnic tables at each site and vault toilets. Potable water is available on-site, which is relatively uncommon for remote Forest Service campgrounds in this region. The campground is located in a remote area of the Warner Mountains, accessible via winding mountain roads from the small town of Likely. The setting offers a quiet, primitive camping experience ideal for horse campers seeking backcountry access. Sites accommodate up to two vehicles per campsite. Campers must pack out all trash as garbage service is not provided, and dogs must be kept on leash within the campground.
