About

Blue Lake Group Campground provides a single group reservation site in northeastern California's Modoc National Forest. The site sits above Blue Lake, which formed thousands of years ago from a massive landslide and is known for its deep blue color and ice-cold water even in summer. The surrounding forest includes ponderosa pine, Jeffrey pine, incense cedar, and aspen, with many hillsides regenerating after a 2003 wildfire, though the campground itself was spared. The group site features a 250-foot gravel pull-through driveway with slight grade, accommodating RVs and trailers up to 40 feet. The site holds up to 75 people and 12 vehicles. Vault toilets and potable water are available at the campground, though water systems may not activate until late May and typically shut off in early October. A 3-mile trail surrounds the lake, and several South Warner Wilderness trailheads lie within 6-15 miles. OHV recreation is popular on nearby road systems.

Directions

From Alturas, go south on US Hwy 395 to Likely, CA. Turn east on County Road 64/Jess Valley Rd and drive 9 miles to Blue Lake Road. Turn right on Blue Lake Road and follow signs approximately 8.5 miles to the campground. The group site is at the upper end of the one-way loop, adjacent to the camp host site past the fee station.
