About
Rainy Day Campground offers primitive camping in a scenic ridge-top setting within the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. The campsites are situated among open timber stands, with many sites naturally screened from the access road by surrounding trees. This creates a sense of privacy while maintaining the open forest character of the area. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets and metal fire rings at each site. Access to the campground requires traveling approximately 16.2 miles south on Santiam-Sourdough Road #492 from its junction with State Highway 14. Be prepared for rough and narrow road conditions in places, particularly during spring runoff or after heavy rains. This is a first-come, first-served campground with no reservation system. The remote location and basic facilities make it ideal for campers seeking solitude and an authentic backcountry experience. Winter access may be limited or impossible due to snow conditions at this elevation.
Directions
Traveling east on State Highway 14 to the junction with Santiam-Sourdough Road #492. Turn south on Road #492 and follow it approximately 16.2 miles to the campground. Road access is rough and narrow in places.
