Sea Rim State Park
The park is open daily 6am to 10pm. East Beach is closed to camping and vehicles due to a wash-out as of February 2026. The floating primitive boat-in campsite remains closed for repairs. West Beach primitive camping and the Piping Plover electric campsites are operating normally. Primitive beach sites are first-come, first-served and may close during extreme high tides.
About
Sea Rim State Park sits where the coastal marsh meets the Gulf of Mexico along the upper Texas coast. The park preserves one of the last remaining examples of natural marsh-beach transition on the Gulf, providing habitat for shorebirds, wading birds, and other coastal wildlife. The Marshlands Unit offers paddling trails through the wetlands while the Beach Unit features miles of undeveloped shoreline. Camping options range from developed to primitive. The Piping Plover loop contains 15 reservable sites with 50/30-amp electric hookups, water connections, picnic tables, and outdoor grills positioned near beach access and the dune boardwalk. For a more rustic experience, 75 primitive sites on West Beach are available first-come, first-served at a lower nightly rate. Ground fires are permitted on the primitive beach sites, and equestrian camping is allowed with horses restricted to Middle Beach. Facilities include vault restrooms, a dump station, and rinse showers near the boardwalk. The park also maintains wheelchair-accessible facilities and offers loaner wheelchairs. A cabin with kitchen amenities accommodates those seeking more shelter. Note that primitive beach sites may close temporarily during extreme high tides or severe weather.
