About

Sam Houston Jones State Park encompasses 1,047 acres of diverse Louisiana landscape, including cypress-tupelo swamp, mixed pine-hardwood forest, and scenic lagoons fed by the west fork of the Calcasieu River. Established in 1944, the park underwent extensive reconstruction following devastating damage from Hurricanes Laura and Delta in 2020, reopening in 2022 with modernized facilities. Over 5,000 longleaf pine trees were planted as part of the restoration effort. The campground features 30 premium pull-through RV sites arranged along the lagoons, each equipped with water, sewer, and 50-amp electrical connections, plus a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Hot showers, flush restrooms, and an RV dump station serve campers. Ten deluxe cabins sleeping up to 8 guests and a lodge accommodating 14 are available for those seeking more amenities. Recreational opportunities include hiking and biking on multi-use trails, paddling the lagoons and river, fishing for bass and catfish, and wildlife observation along a 500-foot accessible boardwalk. The park serves as an excellent base for exploring the greater Lake Charles area while enjoying a quiet natural retreat.
