About

Located in remote Val Verde County where the Pecos River meets the Rio Grande, Seminole Canyon State Park protects one of the most significant rock art sites in North America. The campground occupies the high desert terrain above the dramatic canyon system, offering stark views of the Chihuahuan Desert landscape. The Desert Vista Camping Area contains 31 sites: 23 with 50-amp electric and water hookups, and 8 with water access only. All include shade shelters, fire rings with grills, picnic tables, and lantern posts. The Roadrunner Flat Primitive Camping Area offers 15 self-contained pull-through sites for tents and RVs, though without utilities or shade structures. Three primitive sites are wheelchair accessible with paved areas and adapted amenities. Restrooms with showers serve all camping areas. The park's main draw is the Fate Bell Shelter tour, a guided 1.5-mile hike into the canyon to view pictographs created by hunter-gatherers over 4,000 years ago. Nearly 10 miles of trails wind along the canyon rim and down to the Rio Grande. A visitor center and park store provide interpretation and supplies.
