About

Max V. Shaul State Park is a small, quiet camping area nestled in the scenic Schoharie Valley at the base of Toepath Mountain. The campground features 30 wooded tent and trailer sites that provide privacy and a peaceful atmosphere. Amenities include showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and a nature trail. The park has shady picnic grounds with a pavilion available for rent, playing fields for softball, basketball, and volleyball, plus a playground for children. Fishing access is available at Panther Creek and Schoharie Creek, with a car-top boat launch trail established in 2011. The park's 1.9 miles of hiking trails offer opportunities for exploration, and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular in winter months. A group camping area accommodates up to 30 people and is available to non-profit organizations. The park's proximity to Mine Kill State Park, just 9 miles south, provides campers with additional recreational opportunities. Valid camping permits grant free access to Mine Kill's Olympic-size pool, wading pool, and diving pool, as well as hiking trails and the beautiful Blenheim-Gilboa Reservoir. The location offers easy access to area attractions including Howe Caverns, the Iroquois Indian Museum, and the Catskill Scenic Trail.
