About

Weymouth Woods-Sandhills Nature Preserve encompasses longleaf pine forest that once covered millions of acres across the southeastern United States. The preserve protects critical habitat for several rare species including the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, the fox squirrel, pine snake, Sandhills pyxie-moss, and the insectivorous purple pitcher plant. The main tract features a visitor center with natural history exhibits, an auditorium, classroom, and discovery room for educational programs. Seven miles of hiking trails wind through the longleaf pine ecosystem, while 2.5 miles of bridle trails are available for equestrian use (though no horse trailer parking exists). The Boyd and Paint Hill tracts each offer an additional mile of hiking trails. This is a day-use only facility. There are no camping facilities at Weymouth Woods. The closest state park with camping is Raven Rock State Park.
