About
Jordan Lake State Recreation Area lies 30 miles west of Raleigh along the shores of a 14,000-acre US Army Corps of Engineers reservoir. The park offers one of the largest camping operations in North Carolina's state park system, with over 1,000 sites spread across Crosswinds (182 sites), Parkers Creek (250 sites), Poplar Point (579 sites), New Hope Overlook (24 primitive sites), and Vista Point group areas. Sites range from walk-to primitive spots to full-hookup RV pads with water and electric service. Each main campground provides bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers, picnic tables and grills at every site, dump stations, and trash service. Several loops at Parkers Creek and Poplar Point operate on a walk-up, first-come-first-served basis. The reservoir supports multiple boat ramps, designated swim beaches, and 15 miles of hiking trails. Bald eagles nest along the lake and are frequently spotted year-round. Reservations are handled through the NC Parks system at ncparks.gov/reservations. Day-use entry fees apply on weekends in spring and fall, and daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
