About

Beartown State Forest campground is a small, primitive camping area featuring 12 campsites nestled near Benedict Pond in the heart of the Berkshires. After a four-year upgrade that concluded in 2024, the campground reopened with improved amenities while maintaining its natural character. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire pit with grill, surrounded by the quiet beauty of this 12,000-acre forest. The campground provides access to Benedict Pond for swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boating. Extensive hiking trails wind through the forest, including the popular Benedict Pond Loop. The forest spans across Great Barrington, Monterey, Lee, and Tyringham, offering visitors diverse terrain to explore. Note that black bears are occasional visitors to this campground, and food storage lockers are provided at each site.
