Open — The park is open year-round. During winter months, only Burning Heart Campground with full hookups is available for reservations; call the park office to book. Most facilities operate fully from mid-April through mid-October. Cabins and some facilities remain open year-round.

About

Pomona State Park occupies 490 acres on the south shore of the 4,000-acre Pomona Reservoir, about 30 miles south of Topeka in Osage County. The park is well-known among northeast Kansas campers for its shaded campsites and relaxed family atmosphere. With over a dozen campgrounds offering approximately 350 total campsites, visitors can choose from primitive sites to full hookup sites with electric, water, and sewer. The park sits in a unique transition zone between tallgrass prairie and eastern woodlands, creating diverse habitat for wildlife viewing. Bald eagles visit in winter, while migrations bring waterfowl including snow and Canada geese, buffleheads, goldeneyes, and pelicans. Year-round residents include white-tailed deer, bobcats, coyotes, and turkeys. The park features over 12 miles of hiking trails, including the ADA-accessible Hedge-Wood Trail. Four modern ADA-accessible cabins and the Southwind Shelter House are available for rent year-round. Pomona Lake is popular with water skiers and anglers. The reservoir offers good fishing for crappie, catfish, white bass, and wiper. A full-service marina operates seasonally in the Kansa Campground. The park has historical connections to the Santa Fe Trail and provides easy access to Topeka, Lawrence, and other metropolitan areas.
