Richard B Russell State Park
Open — Open year-round. Park hours are 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. Reservations available up to 13 months in advance through the Georgia State Parks system.
Special Weather Statement issued March 28 at 10:04PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
While moisture is expected to begin slowly recovering tomorrow, another very dry afternoon is expected with relative humidity between 20 and 30 percent forecast across much of the area. Although winds will be mostly light...between 5 and 10 mph, the dry air combined with very dry vegetation will result in a continuation of elevated fire danger. Statewide burn bans are in effect for both North Carolina and South Carolina until further notice. Open burning of any kind is subject to fines until the bans are lifted.
About
Richard B. Russell State Park is located on the shores of 26,650-acre Lake Richard B. Russell in northeast Georgia, offering some of the state's finest fishing and boating opportunities. The park's 27 campsites are positioned on or near the water's edge, providing easy lake access and scenic views. Each site includes 30-amp electrical and water hookups, a picnic table, grill, and light. Some sites feature boat docks for convenient water access. The campground is well-equipped with modern amenities including restroom facilities with showers, a dump station, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi connectivity, and cable TV hookups. The park spans 2,508 acres and features a seasonal swimming beach that is wheelchair accessible, along with most other park facilities. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy 6 miles of hiking and biking trails, including a nature trail that follows the shoreline to one of the oldest steel pin bridges in the area before looping through the woods. Recreational opportunities extend beyond camping with a disc golf course and the acclaimed Arrowhead Pointe 18-hole golf course featuring a pro shop. The lake is a popular destination for fishing, paddling, kayaking, and boating with boat ramps available. The area has significant archaeological history, with excavations revealing Paleo-Indian sites dating back more than 10,000 years, now submerged in an area called Rucker's Bottom. The park offers 20 cottages for those seeking alternative accommodations, picnic shelters, and a group shelter for larger gatherings.
