About

Puskus Lake Recreation Area is a fairly remote destination in Holly Springs National Forest for campers who prefer a quiet, uncrowded environment without modern conveniences. The recreation area surrounds a scenic 96-acre lake stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, occasional crappie, and catfish, making it a solid choice for anglers. The campground offers 19 primitive campsites on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. A self-pay fee station is located just beyond the entrance gate with no attendant on duty, so visitors should arrive with correct currency (cash or check). Additional facilities include 13 picnic sites, a boat ramp for motorized and non-motorized boats, fishing piers, and a 1-mile hiking trail. This is a primitive area with vault toilets only. No potable water, showers, or hookups are available. Campers should come fully prepared with their own water supply and any other necessities for a backcountry-style experience.
