About

Bear Creek Transfer Camp is a specialized equestrian facility located in Sawtooth National Forest, 32 miles north of Fairfield in Camas County, Idaho. Accessed via Forest Road 012 over Fleck Summit, this remote transfer camp serves as an ideal base for horseback riders exploring the backcountry. The campground offers 6 primitive campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. For equestrian users, the facility provides corrals, mangers, and barrier-free stock loading ramps. Stock water is available from Bear Creek, located approximately 150 yards to the north. One vault toilet restroom serves the campground, but visitors must bring their own drinking water as no potable water is available on-site. Operating as a no-fee campground, Bear Creek Transfer Camp is typically accessible from mid-May through October 31, though exact dates are weather-dependent. All pets must be leashed, and campfires must be attended at all times. The location provides access to excellent hiking, backpacking, fishing, and horseback riding opportunities in the surrounding national forest.
