About
Bear Creek Transfer Camp is a free, primitive equestrian campground in the Fairfield Ranger District of Sawtooth National Forest, situated 32 miles north of Fairfield, Idaho. The facility caters specifically to horse campers and pack stock users, providing 6 campsites with corrals and mangers at each site, along with barrier-free stock loading ramps. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring. A single vault toilet restroom serves the facility. Stock water is accessible approximately 150 yards north at Bear Creek. There is no potable water at the campground, so campers must bring their own drinking water. When operational, the campground typically opens in mid-May and closes October 31, weather dependent. Access is via Forest Road 012 over Fleck Summit, then Road 079 past the Methodist Church Camp, and left onto Road 889. Note that the Fleck Summit road widening project may cause weekday road closures from July through mid-August.
Directions
From Fairfield, travel 32 miles north over Fleck Summit on Forest Road 012. At the summer home area, turn onto Road 079 and continue north past the Methodist Church Camp. Turn left onto Road 889 and look for the entrance sign.
