Cranesnest Campground
The campground is temporarily closed for construction. Road surfaces, pull-offs, and campsite entrances are being resurfaced. The reservation window will reopen and the camping season will be extended once work is complete. Alternative camping is available at Pound River Campground and Lower Twin Campground.

Due to planned construction at Cranesnest Campground, we regret to inform our customers that we will be temporarily closing the campground to allow the re-surfacing of roadways, pull-offs, and campsite entrances to be completed. Once the work is complete, we will re-open the reservation window to allow customers to make reservations. We will also extend the camping season to allow additional time to camp due to the closure. About
Cranesnest Campground is located within the John W. Flannagan Dam and Reservoir recreation area in Dickenson County, Virginia. The reservoir, created by a dam completed in 1964, covers 1,145 acres with nearly 40 miles of shoreline maintained at approximately 1,400 feet elevation. The campground offers sites with 50-amp electric hookups as well as non-electric options for both RVs and tent campers. Facilities include bath houses, a dump station, trash service, playgrounds, and boat launch ramps with no launch fee. Picnic shelters equipped with grills and horseshoe pits are available for group gatherings. The reservoir is known for excellent fishing with bass, walleye, and trout in its deep, clean coves. Breaks Interstate Park is nearby, offering additional lodging, dining, a museum, rafting, rock climbing, and other outdoor activities.
Directions
From Clintwood, VA main street turn left onto Rt. 83. Travel 2.6 miles and turn left onto Cranesnest Campground Rd. Travel 2.8 miles to the campground.
