About

Post Creek Guard Station stands as a testament to Civilian Conservation Corps craftsmanship, built in 1934 as a wildfire lookout and now eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. This 19x30 foot cabin sits on a ridgeline above Beegum Gorge in the Hayfork area of Shasta-Trinity National Forest, offering panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness and the Yolla Bolly Mountains to the south. The cabin accommodates up to 6 people with a queen bed, twin bed, and futon. The kitchen comes fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes, and utensils, plus a table and chairs. The living area features comfortable seating, and a back room with 270-degree windows provides stunning forest views. While the cabin includes a flushing toilet and water for dishes, guests must bring their own potable water for drinking and cooking. There is no electricity, heat, stove, or refrigerator, requiring guests to bring sleeping bags, linens, and a camp cook stove. The remote location is accessed via gravel forest roads and offers exceptional solitude. A swimming hole at Post Creek is located a quarter mile away, and the nearby Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness provides extensive hiking opportunities. The cabin is situated near Beegum Creek, a major waterway in the area. GPS devices are unreliable for navigation, and there is no cell service at the cabin or on access roads.
