About

Post Creek Guard Station is a charming historic cabin built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps as a fire lookout. Eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, this two-room cabin measures 19x30 feet and sits on a ridgeline above Beegum Gorge in the Hayfork area of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The back room features a spectacular 270-degree bank of windows offering views of the surrounding forest and the Yolla Bolly Mountains to the south. The cabin accommodates up to 6 people with a queen bed, twin bed, and additional sleeping options. The kitchen is equipped with a table, chairs, pots, pans, dishes, and utensils, though guests must bring their own camp stove and fuel as there is no stove or refrigerator. Hardwood floors are found throughout the kitchen and living areas. An outdoor fire pit is available with a valid California Campfire Permit. Access requires driving on gravel Forest Service roads. GPS and online mapping are unreliable for navigation; visitors should obtain detailed directions before departure. There is no cell service at the cabin or on surrounding roads. A swimming hole at Post Creek is located a quarter mile away, and the Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness offers hiking opportunities nearby.

Directions

From CA-36, turn south onto Forest Road 29N45 (Tedoc Road), a gravel road. Continue approximately 12.5 miles to the intersection with Forest Road 28N36. At the intersection of roads 27N13, 28N05, and 29N45, veer right to stay on 29N45. Turn right on 28N36 and follow it for about 2 miles until you see a green gate on the right marked "Road Closed." Open the gate and drive through to the cabin. Do not rely on GPS or online mapping; they are inaccurate in this area. No cell service is available.
