This includes the Tribal Lands of the Fond du Lac Band, the Mille Lacs Band, East Lake, Big Sandy Lake, Hinckley and, Lena Lake areas and the Bois Forte Band, Lake Vermilion, Nett Lake and, Deer Creek areas. Other locations including Voyageurs National Park. This also includes the Boundary Waters western area. * WHEN...Until noon CST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

Portsmouth Campground is located within Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area on the northwest shore of Portsmouth Mine Lake, which is Minnesota's deepest inland lake at 450 feet deep. This former iron mining area has been transformed into a popular recreation destination with clear lakes and regenerated forests. The campground offers 35 sites with a variety of configurations including 18 electric sites, 17 non-electric sites, and walk-in sites. Sites include both shaded locations and open grassy areas. The campground provides direct ride-in, ride-out access to over 30 miles of singletrack mountain bike trails that Cuyuna is famous for. Visitors can enjoy swimming at the campground beach, fishing for trout, northern pike, bass, crappie, and sunfish in the dedicated trout lakes, and exploring 25 miles of natural shoreline by boat or canoe. The campground features modern amenities including restrooms and showers. All campsites require advance reservations through the Minnesota DNR reservation system. The nearby towns of Crosby and Ironton offer restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and other services within a short distance of the campground. The recreation area is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The campground sits on the northwest shore of Portsmouth Mine Lake, which is known as Minnesota’s deepest inland lake.
