Portsmouth Campground

Portsmouth Campground is located within Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area on the northwest shore of Portsmouth Mine Lake, one of Minnesota's deepest inland lakes at 450 feet deep. The area was once an iron mining region and the former mine pits have filled with crystal-clear water, creating unique recreation opportunities. The campground offers 33 drive-in sites with a mix of electric and non-electric options, plus four walk-in sites and a reservable group camp that accommodates up to 25 people. The campground provides direct ride-in, ride-out access to the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Trail System, featuring over 30 miles of singletrack trails that have made the area a premier mountain biking destination. A swimming beach is available on Portsmouth Mine Lake, and anglers can fish for trout, northern pike, bass, crappie, and sunfish. Twenty-five miles of natural shoreline can be explored by boat or canoe. Facilities include restrooms, seasonal showers (mid-May through early October), and drinking water. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and a tent or RV pad. Note that the campground is located near a wastewater treatment plant, which may produce odors during southern winds.
