About

Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area's three yurts offer a unique lodging experience along the scenic shores of Yawkey Mine Lake. Each 20-foot diameter yurt is an insulated round canvas structure featuring wood floors, a woodstove for heating, and comfortable furnishings including two sets of twin bunk beds plus a twin-over-full futon bunk bed, sleeping up to seven guests. The yurts also include a table, two chairs, two benches, a glider chair, and side table. Windows and a skylight in the domed roof provide natural light and ventilation. Outdoor amenities at each yurt include a picnic table, fire ring with grill for cooking, and a secure food storage locker. The yurts do not have indoor plumbing or electricity, but year-round primitive toilets are located nearby. During winter months, firewood is provided for heating. Cooking must be done outdoors only. The recreation area is renowned for its world-class mountain biking, featuring over 50 miles of purpose-built singletrack trails for all skill levels, including the Sand Hog Trail which won the International Mountain Bicycling Association's 2012 Flow Country Trail Award. The former iron mining region offers unique opportunities including SCUBA diving in deep, clear mine lakes and fishing for rainbow and brook trout.
