About
Located at the confluence of the Crow Wing and Mississippi Rivers, Crow Wing State Park Campground provides a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural history. The campground features 61 sites, with 12 offering electric hookups, all set among mature oak and pine trees. A seasonal shower building serves the campground, and each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The park sits on the site of Old Crow Wing, a bustling frontier settlement of over 500 residents in the mid-1800s that served as a hub for the Red River Oxcart Trail between Winnipeg and Saint Paul. Campers can explore 14 miles of hiking trails that wind through prairie, pine, and hardwood forests, including the Main Street Crow Wing Self-guided Trail with interpretive signs explaining the area's fascinating history. The park is the southern trailhead for the 115-mile Paul Bunyan State Trail, offering 6.5 miles of paved biking. The calm waters of the Crow Wing and Mississippi Rivers provide excellent opportunities for novice canoeists and paddlers. Additional amenities include a dump station, water fill, boat landing, group camp, riverside campsite, camper cabin, and a picnic shelter available for reservation. Historic sites include the Beaulieu House built in 1849, the only remaining building from the original townsite, and various overlooks including the scenic Chippewa Lookout.
