Point Lookout State Park Campground

Open — The campground is currently closed for the 2025 camping season to facilitate significant infrastructure repairs. The Nature Center and Civil War Museum are also closed during this period. Dates may change as construction plans are finalized and work progresses.

About

Point Lookout State Park Campground, located at the confluence of the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River in Scotland, Maryland, offers a rich blend of history and recreation. The park encompasses 1,079 acres of forest, marsh, and sandy beaches, providing ample opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and hiking. The campground features 143 wooded campsites, with 26 offering full hookups and 33 equipped with electricity. Additionally, six camping cabins are available for rent. The park is also home to the Point Lookout Lighthouse, built in 1830, and the Civil War Museum, which recounts the site's history as a Union prisoner-of-war camp during the Civil War. (, )

From Baltimore: Take I-695 to I-97 South, then US-301 South. Merge onto MD-4 South, cross the Solomons Island Bridge, turn left onto MD-235 South, and in Ridge, turn left onto MD-5 South to the park entrance. From Washington, D.C.: Take I-495 to MD-4 South, cross the Solomons Island Bridge, turn left onto MD-235 South, and in Ridge, turn left onto MD-5 South to the park entrance.
