Westmoreland State Park Campground

Open — Open from the first Friday in March through the first Monday in December. Check-in is 4:00 p.m., check-out is 1:00 p.m. From February 15 to April 30, outdoor fires are prohibited from midnight to 4:00 p.m. unless a camp host is on duty. All cabins are closed for major renovations until October 2026.

Westmoreland State Park Campground is one of Virginia's original six state parks, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The campground spans 1,321 acres along the Potomac River and offers 133 campsites in three distinct areas. Campground B was completely renovated in 2024, featuring 33 sites with water and 50-amp electric hookups, including 23 pull-through sites. The campground also offers camping cabins seasonally and group camping options. The park provides exceptional amenities including a camp store, laundry facilities in Campground A, and modern bathhouses with family and individual shower rooms. Campers can explore six miles of trails, hunt for ancient shark teeth and fossils along the beach, fish in the Potomac River, and launch boats from the free boat ramp (for overnight guests). The park features a visitor center, Discovery Center with wildlife exhibits, and offers ranger-led programs including kayaking tours and fossil hikes. Located on the Northern Neck peninsula near historic sites including George Washington's birthplace and Stratford Hall, the campground provides both natural beauty and cultural significance.

Directions

From Fredericksburg (I-95), take Route 3 east for about 40 miles to the park entrance, turning left onto Route 347. From Tappahannock, take US 360 East to Warsaw, turn left onto Route 3 west, continue six miles past Montross, then turn right onto Route 347. Located six miles northwest of Montross off Route 3.
