About
Hog Point Campground is a primitive camping area located on Naval Air Station Patuxent River, situated at the confluence of the Chesapeake Bay and Patuxent River, approximately 55 miles south of Washington D.C. The campground features 4 primitive campsites nestled in the woods with walking access to waterfront areas ideal for fishing, crabbing, and enjoying scenic sunrises over the bay.
The installation stretches across approximately 12 miles of shoreline, providing numerous opportunities for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, motor and sail boating, fishing, crabbing, and beach activities. Bicyclists can enjoy a 10-mile paved loop within the installation as well as designated bike trails. Additional MWR facilities on base include a golf course, outdoor pool, marina, theater, community recreation office, auto hobby shop, and fitness center.
Reservations are restricted to Active Duty, Reservists, Retired Military, unremarried widows, Veterans, and Department of Defense employees. Guests must have a valid eligibility ID card and may need to complete required access forms prior to arrival. The area offers proximity to historic attractions including St. Mary's City, Patuxent River Air Museum, Point Lookout State Park, and Solomon's Island.

From Washington D.C., take 295 S towards I-95/495, merge onto I-495 S, take exit 7A toward MD 5 S/Branch Ave, turn left onto Mattawoman Beantown Road, turn left onto MD 5 S/Leonardtown Road, continue on MD 235 to NAS Patuxent River Gate 1, Cedar Point Road. Valid military or DoD ID required for base access.
