Janes Island State Park Campground

Janes Island State Park occupies over 3,100 acres where the Little Annemessex River meets Tangier Sound on Maryland's lower Eastern Shore. The mainland campground provides 104 sites spread across wooded loops, with 47 offering 30-amp electric hookups and 57 remaining primitive. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. Three waterfront mini cabins sleeping four are available seasonally from May through October. Three centrally located bathhouses provide hot water showers and flush toilets. The island portion of the park encompasses over 2,900 acres of saltmarsh habitat laced with more than 30 miles of marked water trails leading to isolated beaches accessible only by boat. The marina offers canoe, kayak, and motorboat rentals along with a boat ramp and slips for registered campers. A camp store, nature center, observation tower, fish cleaning station, and crabbing/fishing access round out the facilities. Three primitive backcountry campsites with tent platforms are located on the island for paddlers seeking overnight wilderness experiences. The park is known for exceptional birding, blue crab harvesting, and some of the best kayaking on the Chesapeake Bay. Biting insects including greenhead flies, mosquitoes, and ticks are prevalent during summer months.
