About
Pocahontas Campground is a small, peaceful 8-site campground located in the Monongahela National Forest near Marlinton, West Virginia. Situated conveniently off State Route 92, it serves as a base camp for hikers and nature enthusiasts exploring the surrounding highlands. Each campsite is furnished with a fire ring, picnic table, and lantern post, providing a comfortable rustic camping experience. The campground's primary draw is its direct access to the Two Lick Trailhead, located within the campground itself. From here, campers can explore Two Lick Trail (#456), a 4.1-mile route, and Two Lick Bottom Trail (#457), a 1.6-mile trail, combining for a 5.7-mile loop. The Rimel Area Trailhead and Picnic Area is just three miles away, offering additional hiking on Laurel Creek Trail and Middle Mountain Trail. Facilities are primitive but adequate: a vault toilet serves the campground, and bear-safe trashcans are provided. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Dogs are welcome but must remain on leash. Outside firewood is prohibited to prevent the spread of invasive pests.
Directions
From Marlinton, take US Route 39 southeast for 12 miles. Turn right (south) on State Route 92 and proceed two miles to Pocahontas Campground.
