About

Located in Bath County along State Route 39, Blowing Springs Campground provides a unique camping experience in the George Washington National Forest. The campground takes its name from an unusual geological feature that creates a natural air duct, blowing air out of the rocks at a constant 58 degrees regardless of season. This phenomenon can feel refreshingly cool in summer or surprisingly warm in winter. The campground offers approximately 31 sites arranged in upper and lower loops, accommodating both tent campers and RVs. Sites include fire rings and picnic tables. Direct trail access leads to swimming holes along Little Back Creek, and the stream is stocked with trout for anglers. The Back Creek Gorge area is also known for exceptional spring wildflower displays. This is a primitive camping experience with vault toilets but no potable water. Campers must bring their own drinking water. The area is bear country, requiring proper food storage and disposal practices.

Directions

From the intersection of State Route 39 and US Route 220, follow State Route 39 west for approximately 9.25 miles to the campground entrance on the left.
