About
Pioneer Point Campground is a high-desert campground located at 2,625 feet elevation on the southeast shore of Lake Isabella in the Sequoia National Forest. The campground provides access to one of California's largest reservoirs, an 11,000-acre lake that marks the division between the Upper and Lower Kern Rivers. With 78 family campsites accommodating RVs up to 30 feet, plus yurts available for rent, the campground offers a comfortable base for exploring the Lake Isabella area. The focal point is Lake Isabella itself, where visitors can swim, water ski, windsurf, and fish year-round. The lake is particularly known for trout fishing during colder months, and anglers can also catch black and white crappie, bluegill, catfish, and largemouth bass. A fish cleaning station is provided on-site for convenience. French Gulch Marina across Highway 155 offers boat rentals for those without their own watercraft. The campground serves as an excellent base for day trips to the Trail of a Hundred Giants and numerous sequoia groves in the Giant Sequoia National Monument. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. The town of Lake Isabella is approximately 1.5 miles south and provides additional services and supplies.
Directions
From Bakersfield, take Highway 178 east to the town of Lake Isabella. From Lake Isabella, take Highway 155 north about 1.5 miles to Pioneer Point Campground on the west side of the highway.
