About

Tunnel Campground is located along the Laramie River Road (County Road 103) in Roosevelt National Forest, approximately seven miles north of Highway 14. Situated at 8,600 feet elevation near the confluence of the West Branch Laramie River and the Laramie River, the campground provides excellent access to high-country recreation in the Canyon Lakes Ranger District. The 49 campsites are spread through a mature lodgepole pine forest. Mountain pine beetle activity has necessitated removal of many dead trees for visitor safety, resulting in a somewhat more open canopy than in past years. Each site features a picnic table, fire grate, tent pad, and bear locker. Parking spurs range from 25 to 70 feet, accommodating RVs up to 40 feet. Potable water is available from a hand pump, and vault toilets serve the campground. Stream fishing in the Laramie River is a primary draw, along with hiking access to the Rawah Wilderness. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with moose frequently spotted along Laramie River Road. The campground operates first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. Sites accommodate up to eight people, and dogs must be kept on a hand-held leash.
