About

Pine Log Primitive Campsites are located in Pine Log State Forest, Florida's first state forest established in 1936, about 14 miles north of Panama City Beach in Washington County. The three primitive campsites are dispersed along Pine Log Creek and provide a true backcountry camping experience without water, electric, or restroom facilities. Each site accommodates up to 8 people and is designated tent-only. The 7,000-acre forest encompasses diverse natural communities including sand hills, flatwoods, cypress ponds, and titi swamps that are home to indigenous animal and plant species. The area is part of both the Florida Scenic Trail and Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail, making it an excellent destination for birding and wildlife photography. Recreational activities include fishing in Pine Log Creek, hiking, mountain biking on designated trails, swimming, and wildlife viewing. The forest also offers designated horseback riding trails, though separate from the primitive camping areas. Campsites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance through the Florida State Forests reservation system for $9.09 per night. The campground operates year-round and provides fire rings and picnic tables at each site. The forest includes other developed facilities such as pavilions, fishing piers, and swimming areas accessible to primitive campers.
