About
Eastern Lake Campground 2 sits on the banks of Eastern Lake within Point Washington State Forest in Walton County, about 9 miles south of Freeport. This primitive campground offers four tent-only sites, each accommodating up to 8 people. Sites feature 14x20-foot tent pads, picnic tables, barbecue grills, fire rings, and lantern hangers, with a communal outhouse serving all campsites. The campground provides no water or electric hookups, making it ideal for experienced campers seeking a backcountry experience. The forest encompasses approximately 15,400 acres of diverse natural communities including sand hills, mesic flatwoods, basin swamps, wet prairies, and cypress swamps. Less than a quarter mile from the campground, the Eastern Lake Trail system offers three double-track loops for hiking and mountain biking covering 3.5, 5, and 10 miles, plus the 8-mile Longleaf Greenway spur trail. The McQuage Bayou Horse Trail provides additional recreation opportunities. The forest is part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail and is widely used for hunting, fishing, bird watching, wildlife viewing, and photography.
